WRC Academy
Faster than ever
Context In 2011, FIA launched the inaugural WRC Academy — a new international development series created as the first step toward the World Rally Championship. All drivers competed in identical Ford Fiesta R2 cars across six WRC events in Portugal, Italy, Finland, Germany, France, and the UK. I joined the team of Russian rally driver Sergey Karyakin, supporting his communications, media relations, and personal brand development throughout the season.

Challenge Unlike established WRC drivers, Sergey entered the championship with virtually no international media presence, limited recognition outside Russia, and no dedicated communication infrastructure. The challenge was to establish a professional media presence within the FIA/WRC environment, manage communication with international stakeholders, support interactions between the team and WRC Academy organizers, and build an early-stage personal brand from scratch.

Execution Built the full communications infrastructure around an emerging athlete competing on the international stage. Developed the social media strategy, launched Facebook and YouTube channels, and created content that helped establish his public presence within the rally community.

Led communications with stakeholders across the UK and Europe, managing media relations and supporting international press opportunities. Served as the communication bridge between the team and the WRC ecosystem throughout the entire season.

Managed communications with international rally teams, drivers, and championship representatives, supporting the team's participation throughout the FIA WRC Academy season.
